The Pyhän Snow Safety Center organizes two- to three-day FINLAV Snow Safety 1 courses and four-day FINLAV Snow Safety 2 courses.
The course teaches basic skills and knowledge for safer off-piste free skiing. In the course, you learn to recognize avalanche terrain, understand the importance of the human factor, get tools for decision-making and practice how to act in an avalanche rescue situation.
FINLAV Snow Safety 1 is a training in accordance with the Finnish Avalanche Training system and intended for everyone who moves in the fells and mountains during the winter. Beginners as well as experienced free-skiers are welcome to the course - good slope skiing skills are a prerequisite for participation. The training is aimed at those who need to learn in their hobby. The course provides basic information about avalanches and avalanche danger.
Educators
All our trainers are authorized FINLAV snow safety trainers in the Finnish avalanche training system and avalanche experts who have completed the CAA (Canadian Avalanche Association) Avalanche Operations Level 2 training.

Prerequisites
On the trip, you move on natural snow and with muscle power, so the participant is required to have basic skiing skills in natural snow conditions and experience in using equipment suitable for backcountry skiing. Moderate basic fitness is beneficial, however during the climbs the pace is kept very calm. If you are not sure of your own skills and equipment, you can consult info@ lumurivallissäkeskus.fi
Moving outside the slopes always involves risks, but we move along the safest possible routes, as a guided group. We recommend checking your own insurance coverage before arriving on the course (often insurances do not cover skiing off the slopes).
