I used almost the same model in the military. I never got lost on any mission which required this compass. In addition, it also has a mirror, to walk wor example with the compassstring around the head and the eyes on the right direction. And at the same time, with the tilted mirror, you can check the trajectory. This compass also includes a levelmeter, to tell more or less how steep the hills are.
