A good work tool to take with you on a trip, or in your pocket for the day of reckoning. On a trip, I have used a lighter thread to remove the edge, so that the edges stay on a better blade for longer. It also works for making edge "passes" if the edges are too sharp at the tip/base. Sometimes, also in connection with sharpening the edges, I have used it to remove the thread in the finishing, if I haven't been able to tune the diamonds, or I don't have it with me on the trip.
