The Jerven itself makes a very valuable impression in terms of workmanship and material. However, this model has the typical "can do everything but nothing right" problem.
Still quite useful as a small tarp in combination with a bivouac sack.
As an emergency bivouac sack up to a size of 1.70 m, maybe even where the square format is quite impractical.
As a poncho, it takes some getting used to and the sleeves keep slipping off my shoulders, which certainly allows water to penetrate the shoulders when I'm moving.
The non-waterproof zips are also a problem, except when used as a tarp, since they are directly on the head with the poncho & with a bivy sack there is an arm opening at the bottom, which means that moisture can press in from below despite a good cover strip.
The other models certainly perform much better in all points due to the different format and the siliconized zippers. However, since these cost more than twice as much, the question arises as to what can be put together from other products for this amount.
In my case, unfortunately, it went back

This is a replacement of my 2006 Jerven Original. I really like the orange colour and material, feels more robust than the old one but that may just be the age of the old bag. Mainly carried for emergencies, so otherwise used as a tarp/cover or an impromptu seat (while folded in the bag). I will say that using it as a seat is probably not the best long term idea, as I think that may have contributed greatly to wear and tear on the material (on fold lines and from zippers). Add some cord to the bag and tarp set up becomes easy. I personally never used the 'armings' and as the new bag is orange I now won't need to carry the signal panel either! win win. Why lug about a half kilo tarp/wind bag? simples, it's multifunctional and lasts far better than emergency alternatives (I've never carried the disposable mylar ones since I first used one and found it far too fragile). This is mainly an 'emergency' item but that can also be used and reused regularly. The DWR coating seems to last well, I only reproofed mine (fabsil) once in all that time.

Best compact SOS tarp what I have used, multiple way of building different shelters and protectors against bad climate conditions. Extra foil insulation allows better control over heat loss and control over thermal signature.

I recommend it to anyone who spends time in the woods. Whether a short trip or longer, will be used. Saved me in the forests of Kuusamo when darkness descended and endurance was low. I made an emergency accommodation product in a couple of minutes and underneath it a good night slept in a sleeping bag at +1 degrees. There is also a break ponchona to warm up and rain light on.

Great product for use in the scandinavian fjell. I have the orange version to increase the visibility in emergency situations, which will hopefully never occur.
